18th Century Cottage Farmhouse with Beautiful View of Dordogne River Valley

This is a truly delightful country house with character and conveniences. Our hosts, Mary and John were so helpful and friendly, the rooms comfortable and even in a heat wave, the house stayed cool thanks to the thick stone walls. The views are lovely and the pool was such a lifesaver in the heat. A great area to explore with vineyards, chateaux and enchanting villages all around. Highly recommend this property!

Très beau séjour dans un gîte authentique et tres fonctionnel. Pas besoin de climatisation au vu de l'épaisseur des murs. WIFI très efficace. Mary, la propriétaire du gîte a rendu ce séjour encore plus agréable grâce à son accueil chaleureux et bienveillant. Alexandre et Stéphanie.

Mary John sont des hôtes très attentifs et très souriants. Pour eux, il n'y a jamais de problèmes, car tout est résolu dans le sourire: notre réservoir d'essence était vide lors de notre arrivée tardive. La vue est magnifique: au milieu des vignes et plongeante sur la Dordogne et le village de Pessac. Le logement est très calme et l'ancienneté de la construction aux murs très épais nous a bien protégé de la canicule à près de 41°. Il est rustique mais tout le nécessaire y est. 2 endroits extérieurs permettent d'être abrités à différents moments de la journée pour déjeuner ou se reposer. La séparation végétale avec la maison des hôtes permet une intimité très appréciable. La piscine est grande et les parasols permettent d'y apporter une ombre bienvenue; n'y manquent que quelques transats pour s'allonger entièrement au soleil. Il s’agît d'un site que nous recommandons particulièrement.

Le calme, le paysage, l'accueil de la famille, une maison confortable face à un superbe paysage, tout a été parfait. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour, un grand merci...un lieu que l'on recommande

In early June, my wife and I spent the most wonderful and relaxing week in the Gironde in a 300 year old cottage at La Maison de Petit Roque. The setting couldn’t have been more idyllic; the cottage situated on a hilltop at La Tourbeille Vineyard, and overlooking the Dordogne river from the rear terrace. The cottage is fully equipped with a large kitchen, bathroom with shower, washing machine, living room and two bedrooms. Lots of open area around the cottage with two outside terraces for dining and enjoying the scenery. You couldn’t ask for better hosts than John and Mary. Mary greeted us like long lost friends and was readily available to answer any questions or direct us to site-seeing, local dining, patisseries and farmers markets. Even though the cottage is located in a small village, you are still within an hour's drive to many sites, including Bordeaux, St. Emilion and Bergerac. We plan on returning to Petit Roque the next time we are in the Dordogne. What could be better than preparing a home cooked meal in your own cottage with ingredients that you purchased earlier from the local farmers market along with a bottle of fine wine from John and Mary's winery.

Une belle maison du XVIIIème, une vue imprenable sur la vallée de la Dordogne, un grand jardin arboré, une belle piscine juste à côté, bref, un petit coin de paradis. Il ne reste qu'à ajouter à tout cela, des propriétaires charmants, discrets, chaleureux et attentionnés. On a un seul regret, c'est de quitter trop vite cet endroit si paisible !

This was a very nice cottage in a lovely part of the world. It was well equipped, spacious and clean and in an idyllic setting in the vineyard with fabulous views over the Dordogne River. Mary and John were lovely hosts and John very kindly showed us around the winery and explained the wine making process to us. Do try some of their Rose wine which was excellent. We also loved the red squirrel that visited us daily to collect walnuts that had freshly dropped from the trees. The cottage is easy driving to the great and famous towns and villages in the area and Mary told us which were the best markets around. Do try Le Gensake restaurant in nearby Gensac, we had 2 wonderful meals there. Enjoy!
