Country Cottage / Gite - Occhiatana (Belgodere)

The maisonnette is very spacious and originally formed part of an authentic family house. It is well isolated and the private courtyard with barbeque was a great bonus. The house is in the heart of charming village in the mountains with a direct view of the sea. We were less than 30mins drive from the beach and from Ile Rousse. It is a great location for hiking, cycling and experiencing the Corsican life in Balagne, a great alternative to touristic hubs.

We were welcomed by Marie and her husband to stay in their lovely house. Even though our French language skills were limited Marie and her husband helped a great deal with advice on places to go and things to see. Having lived in Occhiatana all here life there was little she did not know. The house itself is spacious and has pretty much all the conveniences needed. The village and the village square seems to be in a pleasant time warp, you really do not have any over tourism here. There is a local bar which doubles as small shop for essentials. For a big super market shop you need to drop in to either Calvi or Ille Rousse about 30 minutes away. Beaches in the area are superb, they have not seen a great deal of commercialisation. However, if you prefer scenery, then go over the mountain range through Splenecato into into the next valley. The drive and scenery is spectacular! There is some varied walking either between the villages or over into the Olmi Cappela valley. All in all we had a great time.
