We have stayed in various French gites over the last 30 years and this one is perhaps the most underwhelming. It is compact, just big enough for four adults, however it only has 2 sunloungers and no comfortable outdoor chairs for sitting out in the sun.The kitchen is sparsley equipped - we bought a good knife for food preparation as the ones there were ancient and blunt, a butter dish, a teapot and a bread basket, all things every other gite we've stayed in have had and that I would consider essential. (We left these so it is now better equipped than we found it). The oven is a combi microwave, which worked adequately but is not the same as a proper oven, and whilst the induction hob was good, it only has 3 rings. Overall only just about adequate to cater for a family of four. The wifi and internet was 'flakey' at best with some devices able to get an internet connection whilst others couldn't. I think the router is in the adjoining onwers property so we were unable to hardwire any devices or add a booster. The lounge area on the mezzanine is not big enough to seat 4 people. My ended the holiday with a severe stomach bug, which the plumbing was not up to. The septic tank/pipework blocked several times, and with no equipment to deal with it I had to literally clear by hand :-( and to top it off the owner levied a charge of 40 to get it cleared on our departure! We spent more than that equipping the kitchen.Overall not somewhere I would rush to go back to.

The house is located on top of a hill surrounded by beautiful countryside. The owners who live next door were very kind and helpful. There are only two houses on that hill. They are totally isolated, and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. The house is well equiped with everything you need. We spent a lovely week. Château de la Roche is worth a visit, as well as Lyon easily reachable by train from Tarare a town half an hour away from the gîte. .

On

Merci

Sweet place. Has everything needed ( including heat in the winter). Would have stayed longer if we had time.

For our summer holidays it was perfect. Very quiet location some meters outside of the village (5 min by bike). You can hear almost nothing than the cows and the birds and dogs. Perfect for infants with a little playground like on the pictures shown, a little football area and a little garden surrounded by a fence . The next supermarkets are a few kilometers away what you can perfectly combine with a trip to the surrounding area. Its perfect for a relaxing holiday, for bike trips by e-bike, a day trip to Lyon (appr. 65 km), a boat trip on the loire (appr. 30 km), swimming at the Lac des Sapin (appr. 25 km) or just walking allong the fields behind the courtyard. Dominique and his wife were very friendly and even offered us a baby tub for the garden for our 2 years old son since it was so hot (like almost 40°C). The communication in english was good. The cottage is really cute. The kitchen is well-appointed, beds are comfortable, and we enjoyed the two terraces. Thank you for the relaxing holidays and the welcoming bottle of wine!

A great base for trips into Lyon and for exploring the local area. This gite is simple, straightforward, well equipped and comfortable. Large windows with good shutters make it light and airy. It's in a very peaceful location 1km from the village, but not totally isolated. To the rear there is a lovely sheltered garden that is a real sun trap. The front has a great view over the Loire Valley, to Roanne, and in March - snow-topped peaks on the edge of the Auvergne. Buzzards, lizards and other wildlife, all seen from the gite. Good wood-burning stove for the chilly evenings plus efficient electric heaters. We visited Lyon (loads to see and do), Thiers, Vichy and Roanne (good little Art Gallery & Archaeological Museum) - plus motor tours around the local area - authentic and beautiful rural France. Good small supermarket in St Just la Pendu (10 mins by car). In Tarare (20 minutes by car), larger shops and good rail links into Lyon (easier than driving in). We were blessed with blue skies and sunshine all week.
