😊: It’s been a few days since we left the apartment, and since the hosts have not offered any apology, I feel it's only fair to share our experience exactly as it happened. We booked this apartment in Auxerre for 2 nights. The place looked clean and neat in the photos. I arrived with my two teenage daughters. While I was unpacking, the girls tried to hang up their clothes and opened a door in the small hallway—behind it was a staircase leading to a dark basement. So this was a very disturbing and unexpected surprise. The door to the basement opened inward, into the apartment, meaning that anyone from the basement could easily enter the flat. That made us feel extremely unsafe. We contacted the host right away and explained that there was no mention or photo of this basement in the listing. The hosts came over and told us they had locked the door with a key. However, after a walk in the city, we returned late at night, and just before going to bed, the girls noticed that the door to the basement was open again. We left the apartment the next day and stayed with friends instead. I couldn't sleep the first night, and we no longer felt safe. Sadly, the hosts didn’t feel the need to apologize. Situations like this must be disclosed honestly in the description—then guests can decide for themselves whether it’s acceptable or not..
