Les Grillauds - Château du Périgord près de la Gironde - Piscine chauffée

A fantastic home on the border of the Dordogne and Bordeaux. The house and garden were amazing. It's a "home" rather than a rental and we loved this. It has everything you need and it has a lovely warm feeling to it. We had a lovely 4-week stay here. Steve and Sergine (who manage the house) were fantastic and we were very sad to say goodbye. Steve especially gave us loads of great tips on places to go. Lac Jemaye, the food festival in Le Pizou, local markets, canoeing near Montpon, local farm shop that sold milk straight from the dairy etc. The standout for us was wine tasting around Pomerol and St Emillion—we ended up doing three wine tasting days! St Emillion really is one of the most beautiful villages you could ever hope to visit. It's ground zero for wine and it's steeped in history. I suppose the only drawback of the location of house was that you had to pop in a car to go anywhere. And the nearby town of Montpon isn't anything special. That said, the more we got to know it the more we enjoyed it. We miss the Chateau terribly. Hopefully one day we will return.

We absolutely loved our stay at Chateau Des Grillauds. It was the pinnacle of our European vacation this summer. This property is full of character, well equipped and comfortable with lots of bedrooms and space. Marie-Therese and the caretaker, Stephen were extremely helpful and friendly. We loved the location with very good local markets almost every day and it is within an hour of Bordeaux and notable vineyards as well as being very central in the Dordogne district. Our kids loved the pool which was heated and kept at 30 degrees Celsius. We would recommend this property to anyone. Thank you so much. TGB

Nous avons séjourné en famille dans cette très jolie maison de caractère, pleine de charme et de luxe. Située dans une grande propriété calme, vaste et bien entretenue, la maison offre de belles surfaces et de nombreuses chambres, idéales pour une grande famille. La grande piscine est parfaite pour toute la famille. L’accueil est très sympathique et nous avons passé une très belle semaine en famille dans cette belle propriété. Je reviendrai avec plaisir.

We have just returned from a wonderful ten day stay at Chateau des Grillauds with our three children (aged 8, 7 and 5). The Chateau and grounds are absolutely beautiful, and perfect for a peaceful (except for the children) break. The children loved, and lived in, the swimming pool all day and fell asleep each night watching movies in the upstairs lounge, while the adults enjoyed the elegant charm of the house and (a few bottles of) the local produce. I almost didn't write a review because I wanted to keep this gem of a house a secret, but we could not recommend it highly enough. Special thanks are due to next door neighbours Steve and Allison, who welcomed us, and could not have been more helpful or better company during our stay; including taking us to Le Pizou for the local Tuesday evening fiesta (wrong word I'm sure). In summary, a magical ten days - can't wait to come back. The Hodges family xxx

Magnifique château meublé avec beaucoup de goût, séjour très agréable au bord de la piscine, propriétaires charmants.

We are a family of 4 who decided to discover the Périgord region. We looked at this property and fell in love with the outside: the chateau itself and the beautiful garden with a pool. The interior decoration was unique as there was a very pretty sitting room with a piano which reminded me of 18th century style while the dining room had more medieval features. The second floor had many bedrooms which was very good for the rest of our family who joined us later. On that floor, there is also a second TV room where all the teenagers hung out . We dined inside in the morning and outside in the evening. We enjoyed barbecues and (a lot of) good wine. The neighbors, who are also friends of the owner , were very helpful and nice. We discovered all kinds of attractions like visiting castles, tasting wine, kayaking on the Dordogne, and going to huge parties organized by different villages through the summer. In short , we enjoyed our vacation in this beautiful château very much! We’ll definitely come back for another vacation.
