Karen’s Le Chouettes is a lovely rural property that was perfect for our family. We stayed in the cottage and we found it so well laid out with plenty of privacy for everyone but many common areas to enjoy each others company. We had a few days in April where the kids were able to enjoy the pool. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were of top quality. Plenty of thick towels were also provided. This property is outside of a very small town. In the off season when we stayed, not much was open so it was a 15 minute drive to a grocery store for supplies. At first we found the narrow windy roads very intimidating but it wasn’t long and we were comfortably meandering the beautiful countryside and in and out of villages. This was our second trip to the Dordogne area. We just love it and Karen’s cottageis well equipped if you want to just relax there and well situated if you care to go off exploring. There are two separate rentals and we commented that it would be ideal for a larger group if you wanted to rent both properties. Thanks for the great holiday!

Beautiful traditional gite, well equipped with all you could want - really enjoyed the pool and the local area, lovely castles and gardens, markets and kayaking on the river! Thank you Karen for your friendly hospitality and sorting out the fallout from the thunderstorms so promptly!

De très bonnes vacances dans un lieu très agréable. Karen était très attentive à notre confort, le cottage était très agréable et bien entretenu. Tout ça dans une région riche en gastronomie, culture et activités. Des moments agréables à refaire.

We recently hired the cottage for 10 nights and it turned out to be a perfect base from which to explore the Dordogne area. The cottage is located in the beautiful town of Tremolat, quiet enough to feel away from the noise but a lovely community with a few places to eat/ buy your morning croissants etc! From here you are perfectly placed to explore the region. The property was particularly clean- sometimes older cottages/ barns etc can be less than immaculate and you can put this down to their charm etc, but the cottage was spotless. The property has air conditioning machines and fans to help keep it cool, and these were much needed- particularly for upstairs which got particularly warm, however the air con did prove effective in maintaining a comfortable temperature. The pool is fantastic, not heated but as we went in summer it was an ideal temperature to escape the heat, and was particularly enjoyable on an evening once it had soaked up all of the day's heat! It's worth noting that the barn (owned by the same owner, Karen) is close by next-door, and if you are not looking to hire both then just be aware the barn's occupants could be close by and use the adjacent outdoor space- whether this is a problem or not is just personal preference. Karen was actually staying in the barn during our trip and having her close by for part of our trip was fantastic. Karen, the owner of the cottage and barn is fantastic. She was a huge help with emails etc on the build up to the holiday, and as mentioned above she was even around for part of our stay and gave lots of advice on where to go/ what not to miss etc. We loved our time at the cottage- so much so that we are already looking to go again next year! Great Service by the hostess and my time staying there, with my family, was really relaxing. I enjoyed reading my book by the fire and wondering into the sleepy village for a coffee. There are lots of sites to see through-out the area. I would highly recommend, taking the time to go visit.
