😊: We arrived around 7.30pm after a long drive with our two young children (under 5 and 10). The first thing I noticed was filthy floors and piles of dust. I contacted the concierge immediately, initially assuming the cleaners had simply been missed. Once I started looking around, however, it became clear this was far more serious. The fridge was filthy, with old food, stains and dried liquid throughout; the freezer had bits stuck to it; the bin contained liquid and congealed food with flies; there was broken glass on two shelves in the kitchen cupboard and what appeared to be clumps of hair in the cutlery drawer. The dishwasher still contained the previous guests' dishes. The patio doors, windows, skirting boards and light fittings were filthy, there were old plasters and dust behind the TV, and the twin bedroom had chewing gum on the windowsill, a broken fly screen, used tissues, a baby's dummy and huge amounts of dust under the bed. All three fans were covered in dust, the bathroom extractor was filthy, there was mould in the shower, squashed flies on the walls, a broken drawer unit, dusty and crumb-covered surfaces and a stained sofa blanket. And honestly, the list goes on. This was not simply somewhere that needed a quick tidy — it was dirty throughout and clearly had not been properly cleaned in a long time. I actually started cleaning the fridge shelves myself, thinking perhaps things had simply been missed. Then I stopped and thought, what am I doing? We have paid a significant amount of money for this accommodation — it is not our responsibility to clean it. My husband had brought all our belongings inside, but we deliberately did not unpack anything because we didn't want our things touching the surfaces especially as there was broken glass around. My husband and daughter also have asthma and were immediately sneezing after arriving.. 😢: The concierge told us the apartment had been cleaned, offered one night's refund and suggested sending one person to clean at around 9pm that night. This was simply not an appropriate solution. This was clearly not a one- or two-hour job. We had two tired, hungry children after a long drive, needed to get food and get them to bed, and I was not prepared to have a cleaner arrive at 9pm or later, leave them alone with all our belongings, or sit there watching someone attempt to clean around us late into the evening. They had had the entire day to make sure the property was properly cleaned before we arrived. I was then told I was being "unwilling" and not cooperating. I found that extremely unfair. I was not refusing a reasonable solution — there simply wasn't a reasonable solution being offered. As it was late and peak season there was no where to move to that evening sadly. We had actually bought bedding that day as a precaution, rather than paying the property's linen charge thankfully. I have worked in the travel industry for over 20 years and have stayed in hundreds of properties worldwide, from hostels to five-star hotels. If a client came to me with this experience, I would consider it completely unacceptable. This is genuinely one of the worst accommodation experiences I have ever had. What is particularly frustrating is that this could have been handled so differently. Had the concierge actually looked at photos I sent and seen the condition of the apartment and taken responsibility, they could have acknowledged that it was not fit for guests, cancelled our stay, refunded us and taken the property offline for a day to have it properly deep-cleaned before renting it out again. Instead, they insisted it had been cleaned and put the responsibility back onto us to accommodate an entirely inadequate solution. When we said we were leaving, the response was essentially "thanks, have a good holiday..
