The charm of an old sheepfold 5' from Espelette facing the Basque Mountains

On arrival we were greeted by the owner who seemed surprised by the fact we had 2 large dogs with us and said "he normally only takes 1 small dog". We found this surprising as it had been my first message to the property when booking and had been told the dogs would be most welcome. It wasn't a problem for the remainder of our stay but did make us feel rather uncomfortable. Also, the write up implied that there was a garden for guests and linen and hairdryer provided but apart from a terrace we had no garden and linen and hairdryer were not provided,I made a trip to a local supermarket and purchased all that was needed. The cottage is really pretty with stunning views and kitchen is particularly well equipped. The location was perfect for walking and getting to beaches and is very quiet and relaxed. Despite being within the grounds of the owner's property, they were not intrusive at all. Plenty of maps and tourist leaflets for visitors use. Bed was comfortable as was the sofa in the lounge, we don't watch TV so can't comment on this.

This "gite" is a hidden gem. Very nice, cosy, all amenities - and what a view... The hosts are extremely welcoming and gave us amazing tips on the neighborhood and the region. Too bad our stay was so short, but hopefully we'll be able to be back
